When Ashley Watson bought a $10 Etsy ‘Psychic Soulmate Sketch’ with her friends, she expected a cheap laugh rather than burgeoning love.

And after falling victim to what she described as the ‘dismal’ dating scene in San Diego, the disillusioned 29-year-old content creator was ready to cut her losses.

That’s when a friend pitched the idea to her as the perfect light-hearted solution to her relationship woes.

Curious about the mystical and holding out hope for her love life, she agreed.

She and her single girlfriends all purchased ‘soulmate sketches’ on Etsy intending to orchestrate a grand reveal during a weekend getaway.

‘(My friend) was like, “How funny would it be if all the single girls (in the group) did this psychic reading and we revealed them at the cabin on the big screen together?”‘ Watson shared as she regaled the tale in a recent interview with People.

‘I loved everything about it. It was a no-brainer.’

When the highly anticipated moment came to reveal the sketches, Watson recalled not having any preconceived notion that it would be anything special.

When she laid her eyes upon the drawing, she recalled thinking: ‘Hot, sign me up!’ but added that she didn’t think much else beyond the man’s attractiveness.

However, in reminiscing about the moment, she did say that one thing stood out – the timeline that she was given alongside the drawing.

The Etsy listing offers a portrait of your ‘soulmate’ accompanied by a written description, which includes everything from your destined lover’s hobbies and interests to how and where you would meet.

Each sketch also comes with an estimated timeframe of when you will meet said soulmate, and Watson explained that her window was especially tight compared to that of her friends – ‘zero to three months.’

‘I was like, “Oh my gosh, I hope so,”‘ she recalled.

Sure enough, the psychic wasn’t wrong as a mere eight days later, she connected with her now-boyfriend Carson online.

‘We had an amazing first date and great chemistry,’ Watson described of their first date.

She said she hadn’t even thought about the Etsy psychic’s prediction until her cousin responded to a photo of him, remarking on the striking similarities between the man and sketch.

‘It was eight days after that we had our first date, so it was just kind of funny, the timing of it all,’ she said.

Watson was hesitant to reveal the psychic prediction and corresponding sketch to her new man after barely a week as she claimed ‘she didn’t want to scare him off.’

Eventually, she showed him the uncanny resemblance, and according to Watson, the pair are still going strong.

‘We’re still doing well, we’re still going strong, so I don’t think it scared him too much,’ she added.

While Watson’s story, which has since gone viral online, hinted at the supposed success of the Etsy psychic, not everyone is convinced.

Skeptics have not been shy about questioning the plausibility of Watson’s escapade, and many have pointed out the discrepancies between Watsons now-significant other and the sketch, with one stating, ‘He’s white, that’s the only similarity.’

Some people have also shared their suspicions that the psychic used AI to create the soulmate sketch, and heeded warnings to others before they are influenced to make a purchase.

‘Girl my Etsy Psychic sent me the exact same photo, they need to quit playing,’ wrote another user.

Even so, Watson and her new beau seem as happy as could be together.
