Nostalgic supermarket item returns to Coles shelves after being discontinued

An eagle-eyed Coles shopper noticed that a beloved childhood favourite beverage has made a comeback in supermarkets.

A customer recently shared their surprise at finding bottles of Cottee’s Pine Lime in the beverage aisle.

‘To everyone that was missing the Cottee’s Pine Lime flavour, it is finally back!!’ the Aussie shopper wrote online.

‘I picked this up at Coles today together with another flavour I haven’t seen in cordial variety – Passiona.’

Coles confirmed the return of Cottee’s cordial flavours Pine Lime and Passiona both in stores and online, with a spokesperson telling Daily Mail ‘customers just couldn’t get enough of it’.

The shopper was pleased to share that the formulation and flavour of the nostalgic Pine Lime flavour ‘tastes exactly how I remember it’.

They later confirmed that the Passiona flavour was also still ‘good’, but that the Pine Lime remained their personal favourite because it brought back ‘fond memories’.

Aussie shoppers were delighted with the news.

‘Just in time for summer,’ replied one customer.

‘I wish more of our old favourites could come back and be as good as we remember,’ mused another.

In addition to the revived Pine Lime and Passiona flavours, other classic Cottee’s cordial varieties are Coola, Lemon, Orange, Apple Raspberry, Fruit Cup and Raspberry.

They also offer a ‘zero sugar’ iteration of some of their most popular flavours.

Cottee’s is an iconic Australian food and beverage brand founded in 1927.

In addition to their cordials, which were launched in the mid 1980s, the brand is renowned for its jams, marmalades, spreads, toppings, jellies and puddings.

Cottee’s was sold in 1965 to the American company General Foods and then sold again in 1984 to Cadbury Schweppes.

In more recent times Schweppes Australia was acquired by Asahi Breweries in 2009. The Cottee’s brand is now owned by Kraft Heinz, with its drinks manufactured under licence by Asahi Breweries.

Cottee’s Coola is reportedly the most popular cordial flavour in Australia.

In addition to being a beloved beverage, the 1980s Cottee’s TV commercial is consistently acknowledged as one of Australia’s most memorable television adverts.

The ad is best recalled for its repeated catchy jingle: My Dad picks the fruit that goes to Cottee’s, to make the cordial, that I like best!
