Young Aussie man sparks debate over ‘seriously divisive’ act: ‘No one can stop me’
A man has decided to lift his spirits by setting up his Christmas tree now – three months early – prompting a major discussion about the best time to start decorating the home ahead of the festive season.
Matt Hey, a comedian from Sydney, said he was ready to celebrate Christmas in September after feeling fed up with 2025.
‘I’m not even kidding, I know it’s September but I am putting the Christmas tree up… and none of you can stop me,’ he said in his amusing video.
‘Honestly I’m sick of this year, I’m done with it. Let’s just put the Christmas tree up and call it a year.
‘I would like to actually enjoy Christmas for as long as possible.’
Before anyone could comment on the next holiday event, Matt quickly shut it down.
‘To all of you, I don’t wanna hear, ‘What about Halloween?’ I f***ing Halloween. Stuff Halloween,’ he ranted.
‘There I said it. Always have always will – hate Halloween. Boring, next.’
Matt Hey said he was ready to celebrate Christmas in September after feeling fed up with 2025
He added: ‘So I’m putting the Christmas tree up this weekend. If you’d like to join me, you can and if you don’t want to join me, bah humbug.’
His video has been viewed more than 70,000 times – with many standing by Matt’s decision to set up a Christmas tree three months early.
‘You know what? I approve, Merry Christmas to you and your family,’ one said.
‘I’m not mad about this,’ another shared.
‘I agree, it’s a shame to only have a Christmas tree up for three weeks when it really does brighten your spirits and home,’ one suggested.
‘I wish every day was Christmas Day. I love the decorations and food. So I wholeheartedly approve of this,’ another added.
However, not everyone agreed, with one saying: ‘Matt, it is September’ to which Matt quickly responded: ‘Not loving your energy here.’
Many said they’re joining Matt to set up their own trees inside their home.
‘I’ll be joining you! My nan’s favourite time of the year was Christmas and this Christmas she won’t be here for the first time. Everyone’s agreed to have a huge Christmas this year to honour her love for it,’ one said.
In a follow-up video, Matt was seen dancing around his spectacular Christmas tree that he had set up in his living room
‘This is all I needed to hear, mine will also be making an appearance this week,’ another revealed.
‘I set my tree up last week because I just purchased it and was so excited,’ one said.
‘Hun I put our tree up in September every year. Go for it,’ another shared.
‘This is my type of energy,’ one suggested.
In a follow-up video, Matt was seen gracefully dancing around his spectacular Christmas tree that he had set up in his living room.
‘To anyone who thought I was joking,’ he said, as he showed ‘proof’ that he had indeed put his Christmas tree up in September.
The clip was viewed more than 200,000 times, with one saying: ‘OMG here’s me wondering if October is too early – I’m feeling INSPIRED.’
‘A GREAT LIFE DECISION,’ another shared.

‘I’m ready to put mine up now I need a little magic to feel alive,’ one said.
‘You’re inspiring me! Uhhh I’m seconds away from putting up my tree too,’ another added.
‘This is the greatest example of free will,’ one suggested.
While Halloween isn’t a tradition in Australia, many parents said they still put up decorations for their children or even themselves.
‘I put my tree up November 1 every year only because the kids love Halloween so we do Halloween for October,’ one shared.
‘Love it! I go hard for Halloween so I do September 1 to October 31 for Halloween. Then November 1 to January 1 for Christmas,’ another said.
‘I love Halloween so I’ve already decorated for that, but I fully support this energy,’ one added.
