An interior expert has revealed a simple trick that makes any room look bigger.

Sandra, an interior design enthusiast from the UK who is known for her home and lifestyle tips on TikTok, recently revealed one of her go-to hacks that she swears by. 

Taking to her account @sandras.home.life, she wrote: ‘An oldie but still a good hack. 

‘Currently four out of five of the rooms in my home have this window dressing and it looks good in every single one.’

In the video, which racked up over 1,800 views, Sandra explained that slightly changing out your curtains can enhance the room. 

Instead of hanging your curtains just above the window frame, Sandra suggested mounting your curtain rod much higher on the wall, closer to the ceiling, and extending it wider than the window itself. 

She claimed it gave the illusion of taller ceilings and a broader space in the room. 

Showcasing the difference on the video, Sandra showed what the window looked like before and wrote: ‘How I used to hang my curtains before I knew about this tip to make your room look bigger.’

In the next clip, the interior expert demonstrated how the space was instantly elevated, appearing more elegant and sophisticated with the curtains installed at a higher position.

The theory is that by framing the window with long, flowing curtains that start high and stretch wide, you draw the eye upward and outward, which visually enlarges the room. 

The hack is a clever design illusion that interior stylists have used for years, and for good reason. 

Many who were impressed by the style hack rushed to the comments  to leave their own thoughts.

UK-based Zoe Warren, who has worked as an interior design expert for over 10 years, said a ‘massive budget’ is not required when giving a house a ‘classy facelift’.

The designer, from PriceYourJob.co.uk, said the secret to updating interiors is not about the price tag: rather, she noted, it’s about having ‘the eye for a hidden gem’.

According to Zoe, the most stylish homes are not filled with brand-new, expensive furniture. Instead, they are ‘curated with unique, characterful pieces sourced from places like Facebook Marketplace, charity shops and flea markets’.

She listed some of the best items to incorporate into a home to give it the genuine character to make it stand out.

‘By upcycling or giving a pre-loved item a new home, you can create a truly unique space without breaking the bank,’ Zoe said.

‘You can transform a room from ordinary to extraordinary with just a few well-chosen, budget-friendly pieces. It is about hunting for items that tell a story and have a history.’
